Universal Sowing Machine
London, 1786

Engraving of the Universal Sowing Machine, from a review of Description and Use of a New Invented Patent Universal Sowing Machine, for Broad-casting or Drilling in the 1786 volume of the Annals of Agriculture. In the review, by John Horn, of Dover, the reviewer admits that he has "not heard of any well authenticated trials" concerning this machine, though he notes "[i]t should be tried publicly on comparison with Mr. Cook's, whose plough I have seen perform exceedingly well."
